 Helping Others

At Cooper and Jordan, we like to show our Christian values by supporting those who are less fortunate than ourselves. Throughout the school year we do this in a variety of different ways, below are some ways that we have helped others.

SpecialEffect

We have been really fortunate in school to carry out work with the fantastic charity SpecialEffect, who help children & adults with disabilities access technology. From adapting game controllers up to controlling screens using only your eyes! Click here to see more about what they do.

Each year in school, we carry out a Video Game Day where we learn more about how to stay safe online; carry out lessons based on our favourite games; find out more about what SpecialEffect are doing and also play real life Mario Kart in school with the Coaches. During the day we also try to raise money for SpecialEffect to help them carry out their work including raffles where we were kindly donated games from around the gaming world.

We have also helped support SpecialEffect with an incredible project called Bubblebusters. We had a small AV1 robot come into school which we have used to speak to children who are too ill to attend school and maybe at home or in hospital. Below is a picture where we are sharing some comics that we made with one of the children

We are currently in the process of adapting our Computing Curriculum to create some closer links to the charity and learn more about how we can help other people in everyday life. Keep checking the website to find out more!

The Thomas Project

During our Harvest services we collect and then donate food for the Thomas Project. They are a local charity who help support people who are finding times a little tough. The Thomas Project is located only a mile away from our school and we are really lucky to be visited from volunteers in our R.E lessons to find out more about what they are up to and to find out how we can support them. You can click the link above to see their site or you can also click here.

St Giles Rudolph Run

One of our favourite events in the year is our Rudolph Run that we carry out every year in December. We put on our antlers and then carry out a sponsored run around the school grounds with our Sports Coaches. All the money that we raise goes to St Giles Hospice, who offer fantastic support to a huge range of people in the local area not only at their centres but also by visiting people at home. We feel really fortunate that we can help support them carry out their work.

Year 3 Plant Sale

In recent years, linked to their Science topics, Year 3 have been growing plants and then selling them to raise money for The Wildlife Trust and the British Beekeeper Association. You can see some picture of this on the Our Vision in Action Page.

Year 3 chose to support the British Beekeeper Association because they discovered some fantastic information like the fact that there are over 250 different types of bees in the Uk; that 85-95% of insect pollinated crops in the UK are pollinated by bees and that we need to take care of them as currently 35 species of bee are under the threat of extinction!

McMillan Coffee Morning

This year we are going to be carrying out the McMillan Coffee Morning in school on Friday 26th September.

There will be tea and cakes available for a small donation to the McMillan charity who help support people with cancer. This is an event that we take part in every single year and many people in our community have first hand experience of the phenomenal work that the charity carry out.

Red Nose Day & Children in Need

We also enjoy taking part in Red Nose Day & Children in Need activities on their respective dates. We raise money by having a non-uniform day and carry out work to find out more about these charities support people in the UK and around the world!
