Nursery

You can find our Nursery Classroom down the corridor from the KS1 Hall. Inside you can find Mrs Windsor, Mrs Morton, Mrs Eardley, Mrs Betts, Miss Hannon and Mrs Brown.

We have a Morning and an Afternoon nursery session which lasts 3 hours. Many children also attend our Nursery full time. The children work in three colour groups in each session to help with the organisation and logistics of running morning, afternoon and full time sessions. We have a bright, well resourced spacious Nursery and a lovely outside area, too.

Teaching and learning in Nursery is based on the Development Matters statements, which alligns with the EYFS framework. Within this, there are seven areas of learning.

   3 Prime Areas

 Personal, Social and Emotional Development;

Physical Development;

Communication and Language

 4 Specific Areas

  • Mathematics
  • Literacy
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

The curriculum is taught through a variety of small group time adult-led activities, child initiated opportunities, hands on experiences and structured play with a new topic each half term. This topic is reflected in all of the learning and is based on high quality texts, which have been carefully selected.

We encourage the children to be as independent as possible, and this is one of our focusses when children start their journey with us. In Nursery, we aim to embed skills in the prime areas, in order to best support children as they move into Reception, and make progress within the Specific Areas.

We follow the Christian ethos of the school where children are encouraged with daily prayers and often listen to stories from the Bible. We engage with the whole school for Christian celebrations at Aldridge Parish Church.
